About Indian Post Office:
The Post Office (DoP), known as India Post, is a postal system run by the Indian Government under the Department of Posts, part of the Indian Government’s Ministry of Communications. Generally called “post office” in India, it is the most widely distributed postal system in the world. Participates in mailings, remittances, acceptance of small savings plans, life insurance coverage under postal insurance (PLI) and rural life insurance (RPLI) and the provision of retail services such as collecting bills, selling forms, etc.
The Ministry of Health also acts as an agent of the Indian Government for the provision of other services to citizens, such as the payment of an old-age pension and the payment of wages from the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme ( MGNREGS) of Mahatma Gandhi. India Post, with 155,015 post offices, has the most widely distributed postal network in the world. The country was divided into 23 postal circles, each managed by a Postmaster General. Each circle is divided into regions, headed by a Postmaster General and comprising field units called divisions. These divisions are divided into subdivisions. In addition to the 23 circles, there is a basic circle to provide postal services to the Indian Armed Forces, headed by a Director-General. One of the world’s largest post offices is in Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, operated by India Post at an altitude of 4,700 m.
