About Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC)
The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) (Hindi:केंद्रीय अप्रत्यक्ष कर एवं सीमा शुल्क बोर्ड) is the nodal national office liable for directing Customs, GST, Central Excise, Service Tax and Narcotics in India. The Customs and Central Excise/CGST department[2] was set up in the year 1855 by the then British Governor-General of India, to oversee customs laws in India and assortment of import obligations/land income. It is one of the most established government divisions in India.
As of now, the Customs and Central Excise/CGST office goes under the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, Government of India.
