BHEL has made 800 MW Supercritical Thermal Power Plant in Karnataka.
- The Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has made an 800 MW supercritical thermal power plant in Raichur District of Karnataka
- The power station is under the charge of Raichur Power Corporation Limited (RPCL), which is jointly a combination of the Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd. (KPCL) and the BHEL.
- BHEL completes the design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection, and commissioning of this state-of-the-art supercritical project on turnkey basis.
- BHEL made supplies for all the critical equipment like the boiler, turbine, generators, electrical, key packages of the balance of plant.
- The major equipment for the project manufacture is done by BHEL at its Bengaluru, Trichy, Hyderabad, Jhansi, Thirumayam, Bhopal, Ranipet and Haridwar plants.
PM Narendra Modi has recently made an inauguration for India’s longest Chenani-Nashri tunnel.

NASA from New Zealand launches the NASA Super Pressure Balloon.
- The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) successfully launches its football stadium size and heavy lift Super Pressure Balloon (SPB) from Wanaka, New Zealand.
- The balloon will float for 100 or more days at 110000 feet across the globe in the Southern Hemisphere’s mid-latitude band.
- It will observe a broad swath of the Earth’s atmosphere to detect the UV fluorescence from the deep space cosmic rays coming in from above the sky.
- This Balloon is made together by NASA and Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility teams.
On 26th April 2017, China’s first home built aircraft carrier hit the water.
- China launches its first domestically built aircraft carrier transferring the ship from a dry dock into open water in Dalian, a port city in China’s Liaoning Province.
- The launch ceremony was held at 9 am in the morning, three days after the 68th anniversary of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy.
- Aircraft is larger than the Liaoning.
- It is 315 m long and 75 m wide and it has a cruising speed of about 31 knots and a displacement of 70,000 tonnes.
- It has enough space on the deck for helicopters and other aircraft.
To improve India’s communication system ISRO is launching 5 satellites.
- The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to launch five communication satellites by 2017 end.
- The confirmation has come from the organisation’s chairman, A S Kiran Kumar.
- Kumar said that the main objective behind the launch is to improve the communication system within the country.
- The specific use of the satellites would be made to improve the number of available transponders for communications.
- This move will significantly enhance India’s communication capability.
