PM Modi to visit Puducherry on February 25.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Puducherry on a one-day visit on February 25.
- He will participate in the golden jubilee celebrations of nearby Auroville International township.
- Chief Minister V Narayanasamy told reporters that he and his ministerial colleagues would meet the Prime Minister at the airport.
- PM Modi will also visit the room where Aurobindo carried out his spiritual experiments.
- Later, he would interact with the children of the International School of Education run by the ashram.
India ranks 81 in global corruption perception index.
- India ranked at 81 among 180 countries and territories as per 2017 corruption perception index released by anti-graft watchdog Transparency International.
- The index is based on perceived levels of public sector corruption according to experts and businesspeople.
- India’s score in 2017 is 40 the same as 2016, and an increase since 2015, when it was 38.
- India is far better than neighbours Sri Lanka (ranked 91), Pakistan (117), Myanmar (130) and Bangladesh (143), but is behind Bhutan (26) and China (77).
Indian set to begin operations at Chabahar Port by May-end.
- India is all set to start operations on a part of the Chabahar Port by May-end on borrowed Iranian equipment.
- The internal arrangement to operationalise the port within the next three months is part of the agreement signed during Iranian president Hassan Rouhani’s recent visit to India.
- As per the deal, Tehran will lease out operational control of a part of Chabahar Port, to India for 18 months.
- According to the MoU signed between the two sides in 2016, India will equip and operate two terminals in Chabahar Port Phase-I with a capital investment of US$85.21 million.
PM Modi to inaugurate first ever TB India summit next month.
- The government of India is all set to organise a mega India TB summit from March 13-16.
- All chief ministers and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the first of its kind event.
- The aim is generating sufficient momentum for his vision of a TB free India by 2025.
- During the summit, PM Modi is also expected to formally launch the National Strategic Plan for TB Elimination 2017-25.
The first sale of electoral bonds from March 1.
- The first sale of electoral bonds will start from March 1 for a period of 10 days at four main branches of State Bank of India in Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai and New Delhi.
- These bonds will have a life of 15 days, and a citizen of India or an entity incorporated or established in the country can purchase them.
- The sale of electoral bonds comes ahead of elections in a number of states through the year.

- From 2013, 2,775 Indians were refused entry into the UK at ports and subsequently deported.

- A new study at a ‘gate to hell’ in the ancient city of Hierapolis has revealed that these ‘miracles’ may have a simple scientific explanation.
- Over 2,000 years ago, Romans living in Hierapolis would stage elaborate sacrifices at what they thought was the ‘gate to hell.’
- Researchers from the University of Duisburg-Essen have analysed the gate to hell in Hierapolis, which is built into a small cave-like grotto.
Snap chief earns $638 million in 2017, third-highest CEO payout ever.
- Snap Inc Chief Executive Officer Evan Spiegel received $637.8 million as total compensation as the company went public last year.
- He is the third-highest annual payout ever received by a company’s chief executive.
- Mr Och received $918.9 million and $1.19 billion as annual compensation for fiscal years 2007 and 2008.

- Cybercrimes have cost businesses close to $600 billion globally or 0.8% the global GDP which is up from $445 billion reported three years back.
- The report is made by the global cybersecurity firm McAfee along with the Centre for Strategic and International Studies.

Kia Motors to hire 3,000 for Andhra Pradesh plant.
- South Korean automaker Kia Motors Corporation said it will soon start recruiting 3,000 employees to operate its upcoming plant in Andhra Pradesh.
- The company, which is investing over the US $1 billion to set up its new manufacturing facility in India.
- The plant spread over 23 million square feet will have a capacity to produce 3 lakh car annually and employ around 3,000 when fully operational.
- Kia Motors India will soon start recruiting the 3,000 employees needed to operate the plant,” Kia Motors said in a statement.

- Senior Congress leader and former Indore Mayor, Suresh Seth, breathed his last following an illness at a local hospital on Thursday.
