About Tamil Nadu Forest Uniformed Services Recruitment Committee (TNFUSRC):
Forests are the basic system of life for all living entities of Mother Earth, including humanity. Forest ecosystems provide fresh air, water resources, fertile soils and agriculture, biodiversity and the environment. Large sectors of rural society, including most tribes, depend directly on forests for their livelihoods. Forest degradation will have a negative impact on these vital systems. The Government of Tamil Nadu recognizes the prospects for a balanced ecosystem to promote the socio-economic development of the state. The realization of the environmental stability policy required by afforestation and conservation of biodiversity by the people’s movement led Tamil Nadu to record an increase of 2501 square kilometres of forest cover, which is the highest among all the states in the country. for the period 2013-2015 (Government of India, Forest Survey of India Report, 2015).
Achievement is quite important given the challenge facing the Forest Department due to increasing population pressure on forest resources. Tamil Nadu has been a pioneering state in biodiversity conservation, particularly in the management of protected areas, including the conservation and enhancement of terrestrial/marine flora and fauna. The state’s sincere efforts to establish a variety of tiger habitats in the Western and Eastern Ghats of Tamil Nadu resulted in an increase in tiger numbers from 163 in the 2011 assessment to 229 in 2014, according to the report. “Tiger Status” published jointly by the National Tiger Conservation Authority and the Wildlife Institute of India in 2015.
