The Governor of Karnataka has endorsed the foundation of the University of Horticultural Sciences (UHS) at Bagalkot through a unique Ordinance No 2 of 2008 dated: 22-11-2008. In this manner, the selective University of Horticultural Sciences came in to being with impact from 22-11-2008 at Bagalkot. The decision of Bagalkot as the headquarters of the University is appropriately advocated in light of two reasons specifically, the rich agricultural generation base of grapes, pomegranate, sapota, fig, lime, sweet lime, ber, assortments of vegetables, flavors and therapeutic plants: Besides, the flanking regions of Belgaum on West, Dharwad, and Koppal on South, Bijapur on North and Raichur on East are the center point of cultivation as a result of the good atmosphere for cultivation crops in the zone.

The second reason is a result of the area of authentic spots like Badami (cavern sanctuary and capital of Chalukya Kingdom) Pattadakallu, Aihole (the spots are known for sanctuaries of stone models) Kudalasangama a focal point of religious lecturing and instructing, and the compelling Alamatti Dam as a spine for agribusiness/agriculture are arranged inside the span of 50km from Bagalkot.
